2011 finds us facing widespread and unprecedented challenges. Natural disasters have been responsible for devastating loss of life, shelter and food. Across the globe, citizens are mobilizing against tyrannical regimes, fighting for democracy against all odds. Climate change and mass migrations have altered the way resources are cultivated and distributed. However innovation in social systems and technology have combined to provide much needed solutions to some of these challenges.

While not a panacea, advances in the development of mobile technology have enabled mass communication and mobilization, the transmission of aid dollars and critical life-saving information in times of greatest adversity. SMS 4 SOS explores the benefits of this technology, and perhaps the less valuable consequences of its use.
